Part B Drugs

Certain drugs that require a doctor to administer either in an office or an outpatient setting and some durable medical equipment, such as diabetic test strips and lancets, are covered under the medical portion of your plan benefits. These are called Part B drugs. Part B drugs are not listed in the Medicare Part D Formulary.

You are responsible for a 20% co-insurance for Part B drugs. (MVP will pay the other 80%).

Here are a few examples of Part B drugs and supplies:

  • Diabetic Testing Supplies including testing meters, test strips and lancets. (You are allowed 200 test strips for 30 days and 600 test strips for 90 days)
Note: For diabetic test strips members will pay a 10% co-insurance for OneTouch, Freestyle and Precision strips. For all other strips, prior authorization will be required. If approved, you will pay a 20% coinsurance.
  • Inhalation Spacers (that you use with inhalers, such as Aerochamber, Inspirease, Easivent, and Optichamber).
  • Osteoporosis drugs, like Reclast
  • Arthritis drugs, like Remicade
  • Chemotherapy drugs, like Avastin, oxaliplatin, paclitaxel and Herceptin
  • Nebulizers or infusion pumps
  • The following Oral Chemotherapy Agents:
    • Myleran (busulfan)
    • Xeloda (capecitabine)
    • Etoposide capsules
    • Temodar (temozolomide)
    • Hycamtin (topotecan)

* For insulin pump supplies, GoldValue with Part D (HMO-POS), Preferred Gold with and without Part D (HMO-POS), and Gold PPO with Part D members will pay a 10% co-insurance.

Some employer sponsored plans have a $0 co-pay for diabetic testing and insulin pump supplies.
